Openly Managing and Securing Your Digital World

Egypt, Spirula, and the Electronic War

Spread your wings

Since Spirula Systems started, it wasn't very clear to others what we have been doing. Now we can disclose a part of our activities that kept behind closed doors for a long period.

We always believed that everybody has the full right to speak his mind, we always have been against the attempts to stop people from being activists, to do their part in their society. Having the founder as a known online activist, or a pro-democracy activist as titled on his speaks on AlJazeera English channel. We had to do an active role in the change movement in Egypt, as we are all Egyptians and live in our beloved country.

Spirula Systems has been protecting opposition websites from the penetration attempts made by the former Egyptian regime (or may be their intelligences). We have stopped their DDoS attacks that were made to keep people shut, and their penetration attempts especially for the database of activists held by some websites. Now proudly after the Egyptian regime went down, we say that we had zero successful penetration attempts, even when the internet was down in Egypt and we were clueless, our scripts for self healing has successfully kept everything intact.

We were protecting the National Association for ChangeThe National Campaign to Support Dr.ElBaradei and the Demands of Change, and others. Along with helping some bloggers and support for Egyptian and non-Egyptian newspapers that were under attack. All these were done free of charge, only for the sake of what we believe in.

During the internet blackout in Egypt, we were desperately trying to do what we can, we tried to create an internal network between cities based on the current ISP providers' DSL network, as they null routed all outgoing traffic. But when we succeeded in building a server and installed a forum on it so we can share the videos and news and people started to access it, our trial was detected and some of the DSLAM's were configured to deny any traffic.

We declare once again, we are ready to help any entity anywhere in the world that is fighting for its freedom. Spirula believes in democracy, transparency, freedom of speech, and freedom in general. We don't just manage your servers, we make sure that your voice is heard, and make sure it stays this way.

We congratulate Egypt, and before it Tunis, for the hard earned freedom. We wish for all societies to have its freedom, and for everyone to be just as the eagle in the picture above, standing tall and spreading his wings proudly.

Long live Freedom.

You are the best..

From a personal experience, and from knowing the founder personally. I rest assured that what was mentioned in the post above is not only floating claims. You guys are the best. And I am sure you have learnt a lot from the internet blackout experience. And although you dealt with the crisis perfectly, I am sure you can be even better prepared in case of any similar unfortunate events in the future.

Thanks

Thank you, Jaber. You are one of the best people I ever had business with. God bless you.

About internet blackout, we are currently preparing to buy a satellite send & recieve equipment to have a satellite connection on such crisis. Though it's expensive but it sure worth it in these times.

Congratulations to Egypt!

I'm sure you made great efforts and I'm sure that you'll make even more. That's what Egypt needs now.
Congratulations to Egypt!

It is the first time I hear

It is the first time I hear about the project, but I have been interested in other projects with the same cause of defending and promoting the freedom of speech and presence over the internet.

I am a C.S graduate living in Egypt and I would be honored to contribute, please let me know if I can contact you and what I can do.

Regards.

Contact me

Thanks for your interest, actually this particular project is over, we got lots of other projects going but without the political nature. You can contact me in info (at) spirulasystems (dot) com , and I'll make sure to involve you in coming projects, hopefully not in Egypt anymore :)

Thanks for everything

I was proud reading this, and it felt great.

I may have not used your services, directly at least, but this is the spirit I always admire. Thank you for being a model for others to look up to.
